Neat Stuff

I have been looking at some documents that have been in the family for decades. I picked up a multi-paged, hand written speech that I thought was my Grandmother Helen Small’s high school graduation speech. Upon closer inspection I discovered it was not her’s but her mother’s, May Robbins of Union, ME dated 1890! I will be sitting down tonight to read the copy I made…such neat stuff.

Here we go..

Greetings. First of all a brief introduction; my name is Richard Small and I am a lifelong resident of Ellsworth, Maine. I am married to Dotty whose maiden name was Bickford, from the Sullivan/Winter Harbor Maine Bickfords. We have a daughter Kayla who also lives in Ellsworth. Years ago, my late father, Joseph W. Small Jr. (photo), took over the helm of compiling the family’s history concerning the Small’s (Westbrook, ME) side and the Robbin’s (Union, ME) side which was his Grandmother’s maiden name. She was born in Union, Maine and her husband Conrad Arvidson Seiders. Their daughter, Gram Small, Helen, married Joseph W. Small Sr.Dad kept great records and in addition to the ones my Grandmother Helen gathered, gave me a great head start in my quest. I am moving forward in my ancestral search with some recent emphasis on my Grandfather’s (Small) side which information is quite scarce…for now.
The future hopefully will bring work in the Linscott, Brenton, and Bickford areas.
I am in hopes that this blog will end up being a fun tool to use in the future. For those of you reading this, please feel free to give me any guidance you feel I am in need of, lord only knows I need it!! Thanks and keep checking.
